The Deluge: Trends and Transitions in Europe (1920s-2020s) (3ECTS)
Since the outbreak of the pandemic in particular, but also prior to it, many analysts have drawn parallels between the events that defined the first decades of the 20th century and the milestones and trends that underpin our particular “modernity”: populist movements, a new plague, the reinvention of the arts, the threat of climate catastrophes or the perception of identities define both periods in a very similar manner. In this course, participants will have the opportunity to explore the development of the artistic and philosophical currents that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the impact of technological and social advances on everyday life. As the title indicates, the course links two critical moments in recent history in order to establish a dialogue between them and to analyse the existing convergences and divergences.
