Noncovalent interactions were first recognized by van der Waals in 1873. Compared with covalent bonds, noncovalent interactions are generally weaker. Nevertheless, when acting collectively, these interactions can exert a decisive influence in fields such as synthesis, catalysis, and materials design. Given the growing acknowledgement of their role, noncovalent interactions are expected to be involved in many of this century´s chemical innovations. The International Conferences on Noncovalent Interactions (ICNI), started in 2019 in Lisbon, followed by Strasbourg (2022) and Belgrade (2024).

ICNI IV conference seeks to highlight the role of noncovalent interactions in synthesis, catalysis, crystal engineering, molecular recognition, medicinal chemistry, biology, materials science, electrochemical immobilization, and related areas, including theoretical approaches. All perspectives, from fundamental studies to applied research, are welcome, with special attention to emerging types of noncovalent interactions and interdisciplinary work.

Plaza de Cervantes, Alcalá de HenaresBeyond the scientific interest of this meeting, Alcalá de Henares has remarkable cultural, architectural and gastronomic offers which you can enjoy during the conference. Alcalá de Henares was declared a World Heritage City in 1998 and is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, universally renowned for his novel “Don Quixote”. Furthermore, Alcalá University is a modern Institution, founded by Cardinal Cisneros in 1499: a novel educational project at the time.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at ICNI IV in Alcalá de Henares, in 2027
