The European Association for Forensic Entomology (EAFE) was founded in 2002 and since then has organized an annual meeting between researchers and professionals in Forensic Entomology, defined as the use of insects and other arthropods in legal and / or judicial investigations. Although originally founded to establish a connection between the European community of forensic entomologists, the association today has numerous members and participants from both European countries and other continents, researchers, academics, forensics and members of the security forces. The annual congress usually has the participation of around 80 participants.
In addition, since 2015, the EAFE annual congress dedicates one day to the celebration of the International Conference in Funerary Archaeoentomology (ICFAE), where the latest advances and research in the field of Funeral Archeoentomology are presented, which studies the remains and traces of arthropods associated with archaeological remains in order to reconstruct burial practices or the circumstances of death in said contexts. ICFAE is held every two years (always within the annual EAFE congress) and is usually attended by 30–40 participants.
Both events will take place in the very special setting of the University of Alcalá, in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO, and birthplace of one of the greatest writers of all times, Miguel de Cervantes.. We hope that all attendees will enjoy these two Congresses and our wonderful University.
